Care and Maintenance of Baskets and Wall Art is really very simple NO WATER, PLEASE!! Baskets and Wall Art CAN NOT be sprayed, sprinkled, rinsed or submerged in water! If dusty, use canned air to blow off dust. A Swiffer Duster or a static type duster can be used, WITHOUT any oils or sprays. A gentle wipe down with a soft DRY CLOTH. will do.
In the case of Bread Baskets, a light PAT on the outside bottom will dislodge any crumbs. **Laying a towel or napkin inside the Basket before serving bread, biscuits, chips, & hard candies, etc. will help prolong the Basket's life and help prevent food stains (character marks) on the Basket's insides.**
UPDATE - 1/09/09 Also be aware that these are dried Pine Needles, so you need to keep the Basket/Wall Art away from an open FLAME and/or HIGH HEAT. This includes; candles, hurricane lamps, oil lamps, fire places, stoves (burners), ovens, heaters & radiators.
If your Basket/Wall Art is accidently dropped in a liquid or a liquid is spilled on it....pat it dry all over and then let the Basket sit (right side up)...the Wall Art (propped in the up right direction)...NEAR a sunny window (but not up against the window glass) or an open area of the room (for air circulation...very important) for a full 3 days....then turn the Basket (up side down)/Wall Art (propped up side down) for another full 3 days.
You will need to lay a cloth or paper towel under it to help absorb the moisture settling in the bottom Pine Needles & also to protect the surface it is sitting/propping on. The cloth or paper towel will help prevent the bottom Pine Needles from retaining the moisture which will make them subject to ROTTING.
IF the Basket/Wall Art still FEELS DAMP IN SOME AREAS after 6 days....then REPEAT the steps above for 6 MORE days. This time lay the WALL ART on a FLAT SURFACE for the additonal drying time.
The Pine Needles MAY SWELL UP, depending on how much liquid was absorbed, how long the item was IN a liquid or how much liquid was spilled ON it, how old & well used the Basket is, but the item should return to the normal size and shape once it has completely dried.
