"THE VISION AND HEARING OF "GRANDMOTHER OWL" IS VERY POWERFUL AND THEY ARE SOMETIMES CALLED *NIGHT EAGLES*. THE OWL IS A SILENT FLYER, HAS EXTRAORDINARY VISION AND HAS THE BEST HEARING OF ANY BIRD IN THE WORLD." MANATAKA.ORG
Mixed Pine Needles (green, yellow, brown) coiled & wrapped in Yellow, Orange, Bright Blue & Navy Blue around a glass oval Bead. The NEW EYES are done in the **Navajo Lightning** design and each EYE now measures 4" across. 1/4" round reeds make up the HEAD and EAR POINTS on this *Wall Art* piece. 1/4" round reeds cut in half circles make up the Features of the face, the Ear Point reeds have been painted a Navy Blue and the shorter reeds have been painted an Antique Gold to set them off from the natural Raffia background. The BEAK is made of 2 round reeds wrapped in natural colored Sinew, glued & stitched to the background. I added (glued) 2 flat reeds painted Orange to help enclose the Beak from the sides and add another element to the face. The Head is ALMOST as large as the SPIDER SHIELD hoop/web. The Head measures...10"W x 11"L and with the Ear Points spread out on each side of the Head they add 8" more for a total of 18" Wide x 11' Long. The HANGER is a soft natural Leather Lace topped with wood and metallic beads. The Trim below are 3 Leather Laces each has wood & metallic beads with a white Feather inserted into the Beads and glued. I am WEAVING (NOT webbing) the back side of the HEAD with natural Raffia through strands of natural colored Sinew. The HEAD will appear more solid without adding any weight to the piece. THE OVERALL MEASUREMENT IS 18"W x 17.50"L........FINISHED - 7/26/08

I would also like to say "Thank You" to everyone who stopped by my table and talked with me about Pine Needle Baskets.....I think some people will look at Pine Needles/Pine Straw in a new light, as something other than a bedding material for plants......11/03/08**
