**IKTOMI is the word for Spider in the Cherokee language.... from Kicking Bear on 3/11/09**

Mixed Pine Needles (green, yellow, red) coiled and wrapped in Orange & Dark Brown Sinew. The center of the back is accented with orange & black glass beads. *The HEAD is a walnut shell slice, RE-PAINTED Burnt Umber with 2 shiny jet black beads for the EYES, are perched on top. The LEGS are 1/4" round reeds, RE-PAINTED Burnt Umber to continue with the over-all look.* The LEGS measure 13.50" Long, from front "foot tip" to rear "foot tip", with a spread of about 9" Wide. The BODY of the Spider is 6" L x 4.50" W and the HOOP/WEB is 12" Wide with white Sinew for the webbing.

** I took my LEARNING EXPERIENCE from the 2008 North Bay Clan Pow Wow and gave this SPIDER a REAL WEB! Like everything else about this SPIDER, it was MY FIRST TRY and it LOOKS GOOD!**

The hanger is a rawhide lace loop with glass beads and a metal hair pipe. Below the hoop/web are 2 dark Feathers, each has Orange glass bead & White wood bead on the feather shaft. The shafts are attached to the hoop/web with rawhide laces, wrapped with Sinew, and glued under the metal hair pipes, adding another 6.25" to the length.

***I have added on each side of the Web a white Feather over-layed with a Ghinea Hen smaller Feather, each is attached with a dark wooden bead & an Orange glass bead. At the top of the Web, under the Leather hanger is a Yellow Glass Moon shaped Bead.....12/20/08***

Measurements..... 19.75"L x 12.50"W........Finished - 5/16/08......

This will be another FIRST! IT looks like no Spider I have ever seen nor one that I would want to meet, anytime!! It is loosely based on the Black Widow......4/25/08
When I make another Spider, fantasy Spider, the leg pairs may each be a different color. Hummmm......
