Mixed Pine Needles (brown, red, gold & green) coiled around a ring wrapped in Green Sinew. The webbing in the center of the ring was made with Red & Natural Sinew. The Basket bottom is coiled in Natural Sinew in the "simple" stitch in 4 rows of coils, then switching to Red, then Natural Sinew in blocks for 4 more rows of coils. One coil wrapped in Natural Raffia changes the pattern, going into an "Odds and Ends" random pattern for the next 4 rows of coils. The last 3 coils return to Natural Raffia in the **"Lazy Squaw" stitch**spreading out into a flat rim.
The Trim....2 Green glass Leaf Beads on the flat rim with 4 glass Beads hanging below the rim on the opposite side.

**Lazy Squaw Stitch...---"If the squaw felt inclined to slight her weaving, she would wrap the coil 3-4 times, before taking the much harder long stitch, which held the rows together. Hence the name Lazy Squaw....a harsh criticism from the other women of the tribe." From the book, Navajo School of Indian Basketry (1903).** Updated 7/26/11
